Who we are
Better Value is an iPhone app made by Halifax Innovation Studio ("we," "us"), based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. This policy explains how the app handles information.
Information we collect
None that leaves your device. Specifically:
- No account. You don't sign up, sign in, or give us your name or email to use the app.
- No analytics or tracking. We don't use third-party trackers, advertising identifiers, or behavioural analytics.
- No personal data sent to us. The app has no backend server that receives your information.
Camera and how it's used
Better Value asks for camera access so you can point your iPhone at products and tap their prices and sizes. The live camera feed and any text it reads are processed entirely on your device, in real time, to calculate unit prices.
- Images are not saved to your photo library by the app.
- Images are never uploaded anywhere — there is no network destination for them.
- You can decline or revoke camera access at any time in iOS Settings; the app simply won't be able to read labels until access is restored.
On-device processing
Reading the numbers you tap, normalizing units (grams, millilitres, each), and computing the better-value verdict all happen locally on your iPhone using Apple's on-device frameworks. The app is designed to work fully offline.
Data we store
Better Value does not maintain user accounts or cloud storage. Any in-app preferences are kept locally on your device and are removed if you delete the app.
Children's privacy
Better Value is a general-audience shopping utility and is not directed at children. Because we collect no personal information, we do not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children.
Third parties
We do not sell, rent, or share personal data, because we do not collect it. The app relies only on Apple's operating-system services running on your own device. If you contact us by email, your message is handled by our email provider solely to respond to you.
Changes to this policy
If the app's data practices change in a future version, we'll update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be described here.
